Azkali plague pandemic

The Azkali plague pandemic (also known as the Plague epidemic, in Azkali Anaiteieaski, meaning the second catastrophe) was an exceptionally deadly and destructive pandemic caused by the Koneira subtype (in Sunteria referred to as Protrendker, short for protirehlenhenodeaseukersenhengulia, meaning antibiotic-resistant plague in Oikan, in Loremesia as Eriocica oligoti, meaning Erioka disease in Loremese) of the bacteria Yersinia pestis. The pandemic was the deadliest in recorded history of any disease, causing catastrophic destruction in Azkali which resulted in a twenty year long societal collapse, and further damage in Baphia, Sunteria, particularly in Kalilonde, Loremesia, and Xjetjeŋ.

The earliest documented case occurred in the town of Harakoniaz in Azkali in December of 1977, causing an isolated epidemic in eastern Azkali. In April of 1980, in the midst of the Azkali civil war, the Koneira bacterium was spotted in Atzogui and quickly spread across Azkali, and by January of 1981, approximately one half of the population of Azkali — some eighteen million people — had died, with an estimated 30 million in Azkali having been infected at some point in time over three successive waves. The pandemic caused severe social and economic disruption globally, and was responsible for the 1981 recession.

The outbreak was first discovered on December 4th, 1977 in Harakoniaz. It is possible but not usually believed that kali-to-kali transmission ocurred before it's discovery.
