Azkali Democide

The Azkali Democide was the indiscriminant killing of Azkali citizens by the Society of the Yellow Dragon, commanded by Korru Mezenas Naaru. Under Korru's roughly 3 month long reign, between 250,000 and 400,000 Azkali citizens were murdered, between roughly 4.3 and 7 percent of the nation's population at the time, representing one of the most brutal and quick democides in history. During the Azkali Democide, life expectancy in Azkali briefly dropped to below the age of 30, the lowest in the world. Global life expectancy dropped by approximately 4 years.

The Azkali Democide occured in tandem with the genocide of the Hakainaki, Ironiz, and Ueksperkali in the occupied regions of Sunteria. The Hakainaki, Inoriz, and Ueksperkali genocides collectively make up approximately 80,000 deaths collectively. The Azkali Democide also targetted humans within Azkali and Sunteria, with approximately 60% of the human population in Azkali being murdered, a further 20% being enslaved, with the rest escaping to either Baphia, Loremesia, or Alloti.

The Azkali Democide began on Christmas Day, 2023, following the coup d'etat of Korru Mezenas Naaru. Prepared beforehand, approximately 8,000 viruses, i.e "intellectuals, political enemies, enemies of our organization [the Society of the Yellow Dragon], of the State, and members of the present government" were murdered or enslaved immediately after Korru gained power. Following the elimination of these peoples, the Azkali populace was brutally oppressed over the next several months. During the next several months, most murders were commited via beheading or disembowelment, due to the relative lack of ammunition. Members of the Society of the Yellow Dragon were allowed and encouraged to loot and murder the civilian populace indiscriminantly; almost every business in Azkali was looted of food, medicine, etc. Schools, parks, and hospitals were destroyed across the nation, patients in hospitals murdered immediately, alongside staff. The destruction of hospitals specifically is estimated to have lead to the deaths of approximately 15,000 people on its' own. Humans in Azkali were regularly ritually murdered and enslaved, a majority being beheaded. Most notably, as per Directive 17, the families of defectors within the Azkali Armed Forces were ordered to be murdered as "revenge" for said defection. Following the declaration of war upon Sunteria, tens of thousands of Azkali citizens were kidnapped and used as shields in combat, with only 1 of these "kali shields" surviving the war.

The Azkali Democide, alongside the outbreak of the Suntero-Azkali War, caused approximately half a million Azkali citizens to flee the country, with half of that amount fleeing to Alloti.
