'''Gaudanahism''' is a political philosophy and ideology in Azkali characterized by seeking the rapid abolition of the state, and its replacement with voluntary free associations, the abolition of capitalism and the communal ownership of the means of production, and the abolition of all modes of social stratification and unjust, involuntary hierarchy. Gaudanahism is commonly characterized as both the most libertarian variant of socialism and as a variety of Left Socialism, though its status as a socialist ideology is debated and is rejected by the Gaudanahi Movement of Azkali, for which the ideology is named.

Gaudanahism envisions a society made of communes in free association with one another. Gaudanahism entails a society directly opposed to capitalism via its replacement with participatory economics, wherein money will no longer be necessary as a medium of exchange and will be abolished. Gaudanahism is directly opposed to the institution of the state, charcterizing it as an unjust tool of oppression and domination used by the upper class against the working class. Gaudanahism is also against the practice of hierarchy and unjust authority, which it characterizes as integral to a state. Proponents of Gaudanhism argue that with the end of capitalism and the institution of the state, traditional modes of class relations and social class will be dissolved, thereby ending all forms of systemic oppression. Gaudanahism also critiques, though is not necessarily opposed to, organized religion, social conservatism, and traditional gender roles and free love.

The ideals of Gaudanahism are taken from the era of Azkali statelessness, the period of Azkali history between c. 10,000 BCE and c. 1950 AD in which many portions of Azkali, most notably southern Azkali, operated as stateless communal polities. Proponents of Gaudanahism characterize statelessness as a political ideal and characterize the formation of the State of Azkali in 1967 as unjust, and as a direct cause of the Smoldering of Azkali. Gaudanahism is currently practiced in the portion of Azkali which is controlled by the Gaudanahi Movement, officially referred to as the Nation of Azkali.

Under Naru's rule, Azkali was transformed from an unstable presidential republic into a totalitarian dictatorial monarchy, which commited [[Azkali democide|genocide against Azkalis]] and various minority groups in Azkali and caused the eradiction of human prescence in Azkali, waged war against Sunteria, commited mass ecocide and delibrately burned millions of acres of the Azkali Rainforest, and ultimately attempted to achieve anarcho-primitivism by the destruction of Azkali society at large.

=== Naruist seizure of power ===
Chei Nakathinai was elected in the Kuoke 10,839 election on 25 Kuoke (25 January), decisively defeating incumbent [[Turruist Peoples' Party]] (TKR) president [[Ari Hirata]]. Under a self-described Nakathinaist economic policy, Nakathinai endeavored on a decisively neo-liberal agenda, clashing with the AKR's social democratic old guard. Nakathinai sponsored and passed the [[SAALFTA]]; dramatically slashed funds being spent on the military, infastructure reconstruction, and welfare; and massively de-regulated business within Azkali. These policies caused a gradual growth in discontent amongst Azkalis, with many feeling betrayed by the abandonment of the social democratic voter base of the AKR.

Korru Naru, the leader of the then-conceived High-conservative Turruist sect the [[Society of the Yellow Dragon]], announced in Lerearitsa (July) that he would be contesting the next Azkali presidential elections, then scheduled for Kuoke 10,842 (January 2026). Naru considered his chance of winning the next presidential election slim to nil, so he began organizing plans to subvert the oncoming election via election tampering, voter fraud, intimidation, and violence in order to institute a Naruist dictatorship. In early Satseoko (August), the AKR fractured amongst factional lines following a leaked Telegram chat between Nakathinai, AKR Party Secretary Ñaitiez Uegokai, and several AKR PMs explicitely outling a plan to massively continue the fiscally-conservative scheme, which split the previously decisively-large vote share of the AKR between four parties. Because of this, the Yellow Dragon Society changed from having scant chance at winning a presidential election to becoming a serious contender at the presidency. Serving as a measure to check his popularity, then measured at an approximate 30 percent approval rating, Chei [[Resignation of Chei Nakathinai|resigned from the presidency]] and ran in the subsequent by-election, which was scheduled by the [[Naen]] for Karomiko 11.

In polls done before the election, Nakathinai stayed comfortably within victory margins. Before election night, polls showed a further slump of support for Nakathinai, displaying a 20% for AKR in comparison to the IRA's 18 percent. However, on election night, AKR and IRA both underperformed, giving the AKR, IRA, NRA, and KR nearly the same amounts of support, and the Yellow Dragon Society massively overperformed. In the election, no candidate received a majority, and it was not initially clear what party would win until late in the morning of the 12th. The Yellow Dragon Society won the plurality of votes, by itself receiving 16.23 percent of the vote, or 16.35 percent of the vote including the votes of the parties infiltrated by Naruists. Nakathinai repealed the Azkali Presidential Runoff Act of 10,838 before the election, and as a result, Naru was declared the winner of the election.

Korru Naru sought to create a state and Azkali society based on his interpretation of religious society as depicted in various Turruist texts. Both in theory and in practice, the Naruist state was conceived as a totalitarian hereditary dictatorship styled in the manner of a monarchy. The Naruist state was led by an all-powerful ''imara'' (king), who would be advised by a Turruist-corporatocratic ''naen ren anurokozke'' (Council of the People) made from one-half high-ranking members of the ''restu'' (or party, acting equivalently to the Turruist Church of the past) and one-half corporate groups. The restu, led by the imara, would control and direct all aspects of society, including political, social, and economic affairs. It would also serve to organize matters of religion, and in turn would also act as the nation's sole and supreme legal body. The government of the Turruist state, in most affairs, would be subsumed by the affairs of the Society of the Yellow Dragon.

The citizens of the state, referred to as the ''urokoz'' (people) explicitly to be defined as Turruist Azkalis, would be granted their franchise via participating in periodic ''egeko'', unpaid governmental labor, under the economic apparatus of the restu. A large population of ''seko'', a neologism variously described as serfs and forced laborers, who would be made up of non-kali Azkalis, non-Turruist Azkalis, criminals, and primarily members of other sapient species and of other non-Azkali ethnicites, numbering more than double or triple the population of free people, would be the main drivers of the economy and would be responsible for all production for the benefit of the urokoz and restu.

It is a partial adaptation and self described "brother" of the unpublished 1983 play ''Adare Laisatinara Kauke'' (We Come Together) by Azkali playwright and novellist Pagi Notsekutzi. Often referred to as the greatest film of all time, ''Mari Cried'' is regarded as a landmark release in cinema and is cited as the first widescale piece of media to address and revolve around the Azkali Genocide and the Smoldering of Azkali. The film is often regarded as one of the most graphic and disturbing films ever released, and was initially controversial for several scenes depicting murder, bodily mutilation, and sexual assault.

''Mari Cried'' chronicles the fracturing and dissolution of a family following the invasion of Azkali by Ukilen Union in 1979. The film primarily follows Tzali Eutasi and Iekago Naikañi, a teenage couple, and the rest of the Eutasi family, as they live in the town of Sutarai in Northern Azkali. As the 1st Bapho-Azkali War begins, Tzali, Iekago, and the Eutasi family flees Sutarai and arrives in Chekearoa and survives the Battle of Chekearoa. The family flees south towards Otzeipao and towards Moru to flee behind Baphian military lines on Athi refugee convoys to the Athi States, forming a party consisting of the family and others. The party is picked off one-by-one in encounters with Baphian infantry, eventually leaving Tzali, Iekago, and a young girl named Ausuko, as the only survivors. At the end of the film, Tzali, Iekago, and Ausuko are seperated in an ambush by Azkali partisans: Tzali is discovered by Baphian infantry and murdered in a mass shooting in Moru, being buried in a mass grave; Iekago is captured by Baphian slavers and taken to the Bartsinan Quarry, being executed in 1989; Ausuko is able to flee Moru on an Athi convoy ship, but dies of plague shortly thereafter in the ship.

Tsai began writing the script in 1991 and had secured the project with Angueiheiontes Pictures by 1992. Filiming was held in Kalilonde and the Southwestern Territory of Sunteria. The film at times utilized a small and tight-knit crew and cast, allowing for many takes to be taken, often to the point of exhaustion for many of the actors and crew. Filming began in 1993 and was concluded by 1995.

''Mari Cried'' was released internationally by Angueiheiontes Pictures on May 5, 1997. Several variations for theatres across the world were created, with many shortening the film due to the original cut's runtime of 284 minutes. Initially, many theatres censored and refused to show the film due to the film's depiction of the Azkali genocide, including numeroous graphic scenes of mass murder and sexual violence. Angueiheiontes Pictures refused to release a censored or cut version in Sunteria and Loremesia, however a censored version was allowed to show in other countries worldwide.

''Mari Cried'' received universal acclaim by critics. The graphic portrayal of the Azkali genocide, story, and soundtrack was lauded by critics. The film won a record 16 awards at the Sunterian Film Congress, and is the most recent film to win all of the "Big Seven" categories: Film of the Year, Best Director, Best Writing, Best Acting, Best Score, Best Actor, and Best Actress. It is the longest film to win an award from the Sunterian Film Congress and remains the only horror film to win the Film of the Year award. The film grossed 1.61 billion duidtios in Sunteria, 354.62 billion pitaca in Loremesia, and 52.65 billion iksisuthutse in Rathari, making it the highest-grossing film of all time, a record which the films still holds. The revenue from the film was donated in its entirety to the Azkali International Foundation to be used to contribute to the Reformation of Azkali along with Azkali refugee work. ''Mari Cried'' was Tsai's only feature film, and the film is commonly regarded as the greatest debut feature film of all time.

== Plot ==
''The film is told in a partially non-linear narrative, and begins with the intertitle "'''Over thirty millions souls were extinguished in Azkali between 1979 and 1982 by the Ukilen Union. — Azkali was abandoned by its international allies, and was left to fight on her own against millions of Baphian soliders. — It was only until the Azkali Plague hit that the Ukilen Union won the First Bapho-Azkali War. — The characters die at the end, and are forgotten by all who knew them'''.''

The film opens on February 12, 1979 (Angapizkea 12, 1979), on the Tetzuñaga holiday, where Tzali and Iekago, a teenage couple living in Sutarai, a small town on the Chekearoa-Turku highway north of Chekearoa. The two participate in a small Turruist religious ceremony in town, where the aging priest delivers a sermon on the Turruist concept of ''tasiaki''. One week passes, and Tzali celebrates his 16th birthday with his family alongside Iekago, and the family offers for the homeless and orphaned Iekago to move in permanantly to their house, which she accepts. On the news, a reporter delivers a news report on the escalation of the ongoing constitutional crisis and the beginning of the Azkali Civil War.

Tzali and Iekago exit the Sutarai school on May 18 (Ngezeiazua 28), the school year ending, and eat at a restaurant with their family. That night, Iekago goes to Tzali's room, but they are caught by Pioriko and brought to the living room, where instead of being disciplined, the entire Eutasi family has assembled to watch the news of the 1st Bapho-Azkali war beginning. The next day, the family packs their things and leaves Sutarai along with hundreds of others of the towns residents. That evening, the convoy of refugees is caught by Baphian troops and is attacked. Most of the convoy is killed, and Eña is killed in the chaos, but the family is able to escape.

The Eutasi family arrives in Chekearoa, where they are stopped when attempting to pass through the city by the local municipal government, and they are housed in large open air refugee camps along the city's main boulevard for several weeks. The Battle of Chekearoa begins on July 3 and the city is captured on July 5, but the refugees are spared. On the night of the 6th, the city revolts and is taken by the Azkali military later on the morning of the 7th, and the city endures a long and drawn out siege. The family is able to slip out of the city during a lull in the fighting, but Katakani is shot and killed in the crossfire. As they leave Chekearoa and stop at a rest stop, they attempt to uphold a sense of normalcy, feigning ignorance for the grave situation they are in.

The Eutasi family drives south towards Otzeipao, but ends up caught behind Baphian lines. The family is stopped by a Baphian military squad in the East-Central town of Heiki on August 20 (Satseoko 13) and is fired upon by them: Tzali's Aitzakoa and Saukak are killed, but Pioriko is able to escape, leaving him, Tzali, and Iekago as the only survivors. As they continue their trek to Otzeipao, they happen across several passing refugees — Ari Hekigaz, Sutari, Euzi, Leikun, and Dautzathi — and form a party while deciding to flee to Moru to escape to the Athi States. In Apatzio, 20 miles north of Otzeipao, the group is caught in an ambush by Baphian troops, wherein Pioriko, Ari, and Sutari are killed. Euzi is dragged off by several troops, sexually assaulted, and killed. Tzali, Iekago, Leikun, and Dautzathi are able to escape and arrive in the suburbs of Otzeipao on October 4 (Karomiko 21), being housed alongside hundreds of other refugees in a home taken over by the Azkali military. During the night, Dautzathi commits suicide by jumping off of a residential building. The next morning, the Otzeipao Offensive begins, and Tzali, Iekago, and Leikun flee Otzeipao, moving south towards Moru.

The group stop at a roadside shrine to Mari inbetween Otzeipao and Moru to rest and pray in late December (Ethingiatz). The shrine priest discovers and shoots at the group, believing them to be bandits, but stops and invites them into his house to rest. The group stays for several months before leaving in mid February 1980 (Angapizkea). Tzali realizes along the way the current state of his life, having forgotten his birthday, and breaks down on the side of the road, nearly commiting suicide. As they continue to move towards Moru, they begin to notice signs of the Azkali plague beginning to develop; they find and pick up Korru, but begins to show signs of disease. Korru collapses along the side of the road and the group leaves him to die.

In late May (Gau), Leikun contracts the plague and dies, leaving Tzali and Iekago by themselves. They stop on the side of the road, approaching Moru. Overwhelmed by their emotions and desire for eachother, the two kiss and "marry eachother in spirit", before continuing. In the Moru suburb Euhegiñan in September (Karomiko), Tzai and Iekago find Ausuko wandering in the street away from a mass shooting, and approach and join a group of survivors closer in the town center of Euhegiñan. Having been isolated from all contact with the outside world, Tzali and Iekago finally realize the desperation of the situation in Azkali: the nation has completely collapsed, over twenty million people had died from the genocide and new plague, and Baphian troops have occupied Moru and as a result the Athi refugee convoys have largely stopped. Weeks pass, and on October 3 (Karomiko 12), word arrives of an Athi convoy arriving within the city the next day. Tzali, Iekago, and Ausuko leave and travel to Moru, being chased by Baphian troops along the way.

The next day, October 4, (Karomiko 13), Tzali, Iekago, and Ausuko are seperated while being shot at by Baphian troops near the city centre. Tzali is captured by the troops and brought together with hundreds of other Moru civilians and is murdered, buried in a mass grave. Iekago is found by Baphian slavers in Euhegiñan and brought to the Moru city center, passing by the mass grave containing Tzali in the process of being covered and extended by more civilians, and being shipped on a cattle train to Turku, where she is sold to the Bartsinan Quarry, being executed several years later in 1989 as her body fails. Ausuko wanders into the city and is found by Caretaker, who brings her to the Athi convoy ship which is being attacked by Baphian troops. The ship leaves Moru, but Ausuko succumbs to plague shortly thereafter, which she had contracted from Tzali.
